Case Study: openpay BNPL Experience

How I improved checkout reliability and spend-limit UX for openpay through focused mobile flow and release hardening work.

openpay was one of the projects where small UX decisions had outsized product impact. The core challenge was balancing conversion with responsible spend behavior: make checkout feel fast without removing trust cues around limits and repayment context.

My work focused on tightening the purchase journey and reducing edge-case failures in critical surfaces like spend-limit cards, merchant tiles, and payment confirmation flows.

What I Drove

  • Checkout flow refinements to reduce abandonments on critical decision steps.
  • UI responsiveness and render optimizations on content-dense home and merchant modules.
  • Stability hardening before releases, especially around partner-dependent payment paths.

Engineering Notes

In BNPL products, reliability is product experience. You can have a beautiful interface, but if one edge case breaks confirmation timing, trust drops immediately. We prioritized deterministic state transitions and clear loading/failure states so users always knew what the app was doing.
